As the UK’s largest independent flower show, the Southport Flower Show attracts over 55,000 visitors. For its landmark 100th anniversary, Moonlight Events was commissioned to provide full-service production across all three primary event stages. The team managed everything from structural stage builds to bespoke lighting design and live sound operation.

The VIP Marquee required a balance of high-end aesthetics and functional performance space. Moonlight Events designed this area to feel perfect for special guests and brides-to-be enjoying afternoon tea and live entertainment.

• Staging & Visuals: The team installed a 16ft x 10ft carpeted stage, backed by a 2m x 4m video wall. Sunstrips were integrated into the ground lighting package to provide an elegant glow.

• Lighting Design: To maintain a clean, premium look, up-lights were positioned within the 5m bays between drapes and panels, eliminating trip hazards and visible fixtures. A 16m white-scrimmed truss was flown centrally, distributing beams, washes, and pin spots evenly.

• Audio & Atmosphere: An FBT sound system was deployed with eight tops for total marquee coverage. To ensure the lighting effects reached their full potential, dual hazers were positioned stage-side.

• The Feature: A 16ft x 14ft LED dance floor was assembled to transition the space from daytime elegance to evening entertainment.

The Piazza Stage served as the event’s focal point for live bands and choirs. Moonlight Events engineered a robust solution to accommodate a high rotation of performers.

• Structural Build: The team constructed an 8m x 6m apex roof stage, including a “cow shed” wing for technical prep and artist changeovers.

• Audio Engineering: For maximum impact, four large FBT subs were concealed beneath the stage skirt, complemented by a 6-box hang of FBT line array.

• Live Operation: Experienced Moonlight technicians managed the stage throughout the weekend, providing bespoke mixes for a wide variety of musical acts.

The Garden Theatre mirrored the technical specifications of the VIP Marquee but was tailored for keynote speakers and celebrity appearances.

• Privacy & Flow: Moonlight Events installed 42 running metres of pipe and drape. This created a professional “backstage” corridor, allowing celebrities to move between the stage and the green room away from public view.

• Visual Consistency: By utilizing a matching 16ft x 10ft stage and video wall, the team ensured a cohesive brand identity across the different show zones.

The 100th Anniversary of the Southport Flower Show was a significant milestone. Moonlight Events successfully delivered a multi-stage production that met the diverse needs of traders, celebrities, and the public alike.
