Moonlight Events was commissioned by the fundraising team at Queenscourt Hospice to deliver the technical production for “Queenscourt Strictly,” a high-profile charity dance competition. The objective was to transform the traditional Prince of Wales Hotel Ballroom into a professional broadcast-style environment. The event was a significant success, raising over £50,000 to support palliative care services across West Lancashire, Southport, and Formby.

The project required a sophisticated technical design that could bridge the gap between a heritage hotel aesthetic and a high-energy performance space. Key challenges included ensuring even audio coverage across both the ballroom floor and the balcony, while providing bespoke lighting environments for a diverse range of dance performances.

• Aesthetic Lighting & Architecture: To highlight the venue’s grand features, the team deployed 32 LED uplights strategically positioned to illuminate the ballroom’s heritage pillars and architectural details.

• Dynamic Performance Lighting: A multi-tower lighting rig was engineered, featuring two primary truss towers at the contestant entrance and two secondary towers on the balcony. Rigged with 22 moving head fixtures, the system provided immersive aerial effects and bespoke lighting sequences programmed specifically for each individual dance routine.

• Audio Engineering: A fully active FBT array sound system was installed to ensure consistent, high-fidelity audio distribution. The system was tuned to provide perfect intelligibility for both the floor-level audience and guests on the balcony, essential for both the music and live judging segments.

• Interactive Projection Mapping: To drive audience engagement and fundraising, the team utilised projection mapping on the ballroom walls. This displayed live running orders, event content, and integrated QR codes, making the donation and voting process seamless for attendees.

By combining heritage-sensitive uplighting with modern performance technology, Moonlight Events delivered a “Strictly” experience that exceeded the expectations of the organisers and contestants. The technical infrastructure played a vital role in creating the professional atmosphere necessary to facilitate a record-breaking fundraising total for the hospice.
