Moonlight Events was commissioned by Southport College and KGV to deliver the technical production for their joint Student & Staff Awards. Following the success of a previous fashion show on-site, the college opted to host this prestigious evening in-house. The team transformed a functional sports hall into a premium, unrecognisable event space through a comprehensive “one-stop-shop” production approach.

The primary objective was to overcome the logistical and acoustic challenges of a large sports hall—specifically reducing echo and masking the utilitarian aesthetic to create a professional, “black-tie” atmosphere.

• Acoustic & Aesthetic Treatment: To improve sound quality and visual impact, the team covered the entire hall in black carpet and installed over 72 metres of pipe and drape, including integrated star cloth. This significantly reduced reverberation while concealing exits to create seamless stage entrances.
• Premium Staging: A 24ft x 12ft central stage was constructed, flanked by dual 4ft x 4ft concealed entrance stages. The setup was finished with white carpeting and a black satin stage skirt for a high-end, professional aesthetic.
• Visual Production: A self-standing 4.5m truss goalpost was engineered to support 16 square metres of high-definition video wall. This provided a dynamic backdrop for award presentations and digital branding.
• Lighting Design: The team utilised a multi-layered lighting rig, including moving head beams, spots, and washes mounted on truss totems and the goalpost. To create a “wow factor,” lasers and blinders were positioned at the highest point, paired with hazers for immersive aerial effects.
• Audio Engineering: An FBT active sound system, featuring professional subs, monitors, and tops, was deployed. The team managed multiple wireless microphone channels to ensure smooth transitions between speakers without the need for equipment exchange.
• Special FX (SFX): To heighten the celebration, cold sparks and confetti cannons were integrated into the stage design, triggered during key award moments.

The project demonstrated the company’s ability to provide a complete technical solution—from initial site meetings to professional operation. By managing every element from carpet to cold sparks, Moonlight Events delivered a “stress-free” experience for the college staff and an unforgettable night for the students and parents.
